Position Summary

The College of Liberal Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale seeks an innovative Assistant Director to help lead the Center for Virtual Expression (CVeX) in providing hands-on experiences with emerging technologies to enhance liberal arts education at SIU Carbondale. This is a 12-month, full-time (1.0 FTE) position. This position is classified as Administrative/Professional staff and reports to the Center Director.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Host & manage the Center's events such as Game Jams as well as the Center's participation in greater campus recruitment events such as Saluki Con and World Language Day.
• Maintain the CVeX website and social media.
• Maintain relationships with local high school educators to promote the Center, recruit future student to CoLA, and provide them with access to new teaching methods and technologies.
• Participate in college outreach to area community colleges in order to recruit transfer students to SIUC.
• Implement the mission and strategic plan for the initiative to create a Center for Virtual Expression.
• Work with the Center's staff as well as external contractors to track progress of the Center's deliverables and ensure proper implementation of the features designed.
• Assisting with the recruitment and retention of students interested in engaging with the Center's mission.
• According to need, assist the Director in teacher education seminars on emerging classroom technology for CoLA and SIUC faculty.
• Participate in the summer programs, including camps and workshops, for high school students interested in digital technology and game development.
• Facilitate collaboration with other institutions and organizations involved with the Center's mission and vision.
• Provide training and support for cutting-edge digital technology in liberal arts education.
• Participate in college fairs, open houses, and workshops with community college advisors.
• Represent the Center to CoLA and the SIU community via participation in its activities including workshops, lectures, academic advising and admissions office trainings, and demonstrations.
• Manage CVeX staff, services, and facilities to maximize availability.

Minimum Qualifications

• Eight years’ experience in advanced computer technology, especially those associated with generative AI, gaming, and virtual/augmented reality.
• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a technology or education related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of modern digital classroom pedagogies.
• Considerable experience working with faculty in a higher education environment.
