Job Description
Summary of the Position:
The Assistant Controller will support the finance team across accounting activities such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, month-end close, revenue recognition, financial statement preparation & analysis, cash management, budgeting & forecasting, and audit & compliance support. The Assistant Controller will work closely with the Controller to provide executive management and stakeholders timely, useful, accurate information. The Assistant Controller will also serve as a liaison to program operations.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist in the oversight of billing and revenue recognition activities
  • Review of entries to the General Ledger and Account Analyses to identify adjustments
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies, processes, and support systems, including assistance with the development/implementation of new policies
  • Reconcile cash and investment activity and maintain reports on cash and investment account balances
  • Provides guidance and oversight to direct report(s) including the management of workload, special projects, performance management, salary review, and career development.
  • Support reporting calendar and ensure that reporting deadlines are reviewed and met by the accounting and finance team
  • Oversee professional development of the accounting team
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax fillings.
  • Oversee the monthly close and preparation of monthly consolidated financial statements and schedules; quarterly and annual financial reports must meet GAAP reporting guidelines
  • Manage all accounting operations including billing, AP/AR, cost accounting, payroll, tax compliance, and inventory accounting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong understanding of CAS/FAR
  • Successful track record of collaboratively working with a wide range of stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel and have a working knowledge of other MS Office Software
  • Excellent time management skills and results-oriented.
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Strong leadership with the ability to coach and develop team members
  • Strong team player, customer service-oriented, and solutions-oriented.
  • Critical thinking: ability to navigate complex and first-time accounting transactions, review and site authoritative literature
  • Strong analytical and writing skills
Position Requirements:
  • Preferences: Job Costing experience is a plus. Experience with Costpoint 7.1
  • Preferred Job-related Experience: Seven (7) to ten (10) years of accounting-related experience. At least five (5) years of supervisory experience. CRO industry and inter-company work order experience strongly preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or relevant field.
  • Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Government contractor background and/or not-for-profit accounting background required.
Physical Expectations:
  • Typical office environment.
  • Ability to move 5-15 lbs.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Travel Requirements:
Expected travel time is less than 10% for this position.
Pay Equity and Benefits:
The anticipated salary range for this role is listed below. FHI Clinical’s pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI Clinical factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, base salary of internal peers, and business sector and budget.
Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI Clinical offers a generous retirement plan with a matching contribution equal to 100% of an employee’s elective deferrals that don’t exceed 5% of an employee’s annual compensation. The contribution is 100% vested. Eligible employees may receive an annual discretionary bonus based on personal and Company performance. All exempt/ salaried employees, outside of California, are eligible for discretionary or unlimited paid time off (PTO). PTO is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full-time schedule. Non-exempt/ hourly employees and employees who reside in California accrue PTO. Non-exempt/ hourly employees may carry over 80 hours of PTO into the following calendar year. Employees who reside in California may carry over up to 120 hours of PTO into the following calendar year. The Company offers 10 paid holidays per year. In addition, all full-time regular employees are eligible to receive a bi-weekly Virtual Work Allowance to cover basic office supplies, home internet, or other similar items.

Target Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00
