Position Summary

This position assists with the coaching, organization, administration and development of a successful college athletic program. The individual must comply with all rules and regulations of the NCAA, the University Athletic Association, Washington University, as well as those of the baseball team.

This position is full-time during the months of August through May.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • May coach/manage a designated skill development area or group of positions.
  • Coordinates the recruitment of prospective students to Washington University, requiring the identification of academically qualified prospective student athletes, ongoing communication with prospects, initiation of applications and matriculation of prospects.
  • Participates in the evaluation of high school talent through high school visits, on sight game observations at high school, regional, state and national competitions, and film/video review and analysis.
  • Reviews video to evaluate skills and determine needed areas of development.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of details in all aspects of the baseball team, including team organization and make up, player selection and evaluations, practice planning and implementation, and game planning and strategy.
  • Organizes and produces scouting reports/information on opponents in a manner determined by head coach.
  • Assists with team discipline, player counseling, and related matters requiring discretion, decision making and independent judgment.
  • Supervises and organizes the baseball team as determined by the head coach.
  • Evaluates individual player skill performance and provide instruction in areas of deficiency as required.
  • Coach/instruct team members individually, and in groups, and demonstrate sport related skills and techniques.
  • Teaches classes in the elective Physical Education program.
  • Represents the University at campus, alumni and community functions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.

Salary Range

The pro-rated hiring pay range is $3,941.66 -$6,324.99 monthly for the months (August - May) considered to be full-time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated competency in helping to meet program objectives, working independently, supervising others, and helping to establish program priorities.
  • Ability to recruit, coach and teach highly talented student-athletes.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Effective communicative and public relation skills.
  • Competent knowledge of sport specific techniques, skill development and game planning.
  • Ability to communicate with and interact positively with students, faculty, staff and the broader University community.
  • Understanding of how to build and manage a team.
  • Appreciation of and a willingness to adhere to the NCAA Division III philosophy, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to understand and articulate program needs.
  • Ability to follow directions and accept decisions.
  • Ability to develop a safe and functional working environment.
  • Knowledge in the operational use of computer and video technology.
  • Master’s degree and three years of college coaching experience.
  • Ability to provide competent suggestions in relation to game and practice analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous coaching or playing experience in respective sport.
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Successful passage of Annual NCAA rules test.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
