Architectural Designer – Events (Los Angeles)
At Populous, our Event practice delivers some of world’s most watched sporting events, including the NFL Super Bowl, the NHL Stanley Cup, the NCAA Men’s Final Four, MLB at Field of Dreams and the Olympics. Blending architecture, master planning and urban planning, our Event Designers are dynamic as they stretch across disciplines to create the home for marquee events around the world. Our designers use a combination of existing structures and temporary overlay to transform facilities, cityscapes and even cornfields into venues fit for any event. It’s this technical expertise and passion for sports and live events that builds trusts with our clients as we create something special year after year.
Candidates best suited for the role of Architectural Designer in our Event practice will have a background in architecture but seek adventure beyond a desk. Designers who will be successful in this role must be passionate and daring, yet polished, organized, and adaptable. As this role is client-facing, an ideal candidate is someone who thrives building relationships and forming connections. JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Develops, modifies and reviews drawings for the design of major events, according to established best practice standards and technical expertise in 2D and 3D formats.
  • Verbally and graphically present design concepts.
  • Develops solutions to technical and operational problems, from the master planning and concept design phases through to detailed design.
  • Assist in collaboratively reviewing and critiquing designs.
  • Fulfill the design and operational needs of the project manager.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
  • Bachelor’s degree in architecture or similar design background.
  • Sketching and illustration skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Superior organizational skills: both conceptual and detail oriented, accurate and thorough.
  • Strong in-person and video communication skills, work ethic; with demonstrated efficiency, flexibility and desire to grow and work within a dynamic highly team environment while being able to self-manage and work both independently and as part of a project team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Considerable Travel is required as part of this position.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in the following design software and applications: Revit, Rhino, SketchUp and AutoCAD
  • 2+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience in sport venue design and/or event overlay design is beneficial but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp the core requirements and objectives of complex event and public assembly projects.
  • Strong graphic skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prepare and illustrate information and ideas in a presentation format.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

COMPENSATION:
  • The projected salary range for this opportunity is $50,000.00-$66,210.00 annually, and may be more or less depending on skills, experience and education.
