Location: Remote, Western US.

We are looking for an energetic Applications Scientist in support of our XRD and XRF product lines, with emphasis in thin film/ semiconductor metrology segments. This is a great opportunity to become a technical leader and provide best-in-class customer service that you can take pride in.
What are your responsibilities?
  • Provide technical presentations to prospects, provide input to strategy and value propositions, nurture customers earlier in their buying journey, maintain CRM software information
  • Comply with the Malvern Panalytical code of business ethics, business practices and procedures.
  • Provide training and expertise services to new or existing customers.
  • Provide sample analysis in the form of written and oral reports for pre-sales proof of concept and method development studies.
  • Demonstrate system usage, either remotely, at customer sites or Malvern Panalytical sites in the region.
  • Provide technical support to customers for application of our systems, addressing queries and providing advice as necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • This role is expected to require up to 50% overnight travel
  • Support customers with your expertise in our instrumentation and their business needs; help resolve issues with sample preparation, calibration, validation or other applications-related issues either virtually or at the customer-site during training/ consultancy visits.
  • Comply with all Malvern Panalytical applications department policies
What do you need to be successful in this role?
  • Must be willing to relocate to vicinity of major airport, exact location negotiable.
  • A strong desire to aim high, take ownership and be true to yourself, our customers and colleagues.
  • 3+ years’ experience with thin film metrology by XRF/XRD as system owner or advanced user, is required
  • Must have US work authorization
  • Previous laboratory experience is essential: Minimum of 3 years’ direct industrial and/or academic experience, working in a research, development, or laboratory setting.
  • A higher degree in Chemistry, Geology, Materials Science, or other scientific disciplines is required.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • Good communication skills.
Great to have?
  • Experience with thin film deposition techniques highly desired.
  • Experience and direct knowledge of other Malvern Panalytical Technologies (e.g. laser diffraction, dynamic light scattering, etc.) is preferred, but not a requirement.
  • Experience in quality control and assurance lab environments is highly beneficial.
  • This is a visible position influencing the customers’ perception of our company’s professional image. The ability to deal efficiently, calmly, diplomatically and ethically with customers and colleagues, is essential.
  • Flexibility to working hours, changing demands and priorities.
  • Experience in a technical/commercial role and/or sales support role is ideal.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in competitive or orthogonal analytical techniques such as SIMS, ellipsometry or TEM, would be beneficial.
  • Industrial certifications or higher degrees (PhD) highly beneficial
