GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program and Data Manager, the Anti-Trafficking Advocate provides trauma informed, client centered support to human trafficking victims in the Sacramento area. This position requires working with a diverse population and is responsible for crisis response and direct engagement of youth. The advocate will work with survivors to address immediate needs including emergency shelter and housing, food, legal services, emergency transportation, and health services. In addition, the advocate will be responsible for performing assessments, creating case plans, assisting with obtaining documents, benefits, providing referrals, presenting workshops, maintaining records, and implementing a safety plan specific to the survivor.
This position is a full-time, non-exempt position eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, and paid holidays, sick and vacation time. The position is employed by Goodwill Industries® of Sacramento Valley and Northern Nevada, Inc., through Wind Youth Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develops individualized case plans based on assessments and discussions with continuous monitoring, guidance and follow up of plan progress and outcomes.
- Conducts assessments of human trafficking survivors to determine immediate and long-term needs, safety and risk considerations, program compatibility, eligibility to receive comprehensive services, and any other factors affecting the ability to obtain and maintain housing.
- Provides case management through personal engagement with youth per Wind Youth Services guidelines.
- Assists in obtaining documents, public benefits, health, education, and employment services.
- Attends job related trainings and courses as required.
- Assist with or leads youth activities and assignments.
- Maintains up-to-date information about available resources relevant to the needs of human trafficking survivors.
- Maintains and manages an assigned case load.
- Assists in obtaining short-term shelter and long-term housing.
- Maintains secure, accurate and up-to-date physical and electronic records following approved procedures and protocols.
- Creates, presents and assists with group and individual workshops.
- Assists with daily supportive services as needed, supports facility operations and cleanliness, and ensures the safety of youth and staff.
- Facilitates referrals to appropriate community resources.
Other Duties/Responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with all Goodwill Industries Sacramento Valley Northern Nevada policies, CARF standards, financial, regulatory, safety and security regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Basic Qualifications of the Role:
- Must have experience and understanding of harm reduction frameworks and how they apply to direct service.
- Direct experience providing clinical services, case management or crisis services.
- Must have interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact and communicate with a diverse population of staff, coworkers and external contacts.
- Must be able to perform essential functions of this job description with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must pass a background screening and maintain compliance with the organization’s associated polices.
- Must not have record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates an ongoing tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.
- Must be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance as driving company vehicles periodically is required.
- Must be able to understand and accept a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, and cultural and spiritual practices.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Demonstrate the ability to react under pressure, use good judgement in ambiguous situations, be proactive in problem resolution, and be flexible/adaptable.
- Must have valid CA driver’s license and access to reliable transportation that does not interfere with performing the essential functions of the job description, cause tardiness, or unexcused absences.
- Must pass a drug screening and maintain compliance with the organization’s drug and alcohol policy.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of community resources as they relate to human trafficking, homelessness, and youth.
- Must have experience in goal setting relating to education, employment, housing, and other identified goals.
- Must not present a direct threat of safety and health to self, others or property.
- Must provide proof of identification and eligibility to work in the United States.
- Demonstrate efficient and effective time management skills.
- Must immediately inform Goodwill of any arrests and/or convictions that occur while employed at Goodwill.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional behavior/appropriate boundaries with youth and staff members.
- Must have experience working with diverse communities.
- Ability to meet the specific needs of each youth as an individual.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in volatile situations. Demonstrated experience working in crisis intervention.
