MajorDuties

As an Animal Health Technician, you will: Perform specialized technical procedures on non-human primates and other animals infected with a variety of diseases. Carry out techniques such as experiments are not jeopardized. Use appropriate barrier techniques and apply a knowledge of quarantine, isolation and containment procedures pertinent to the appropriate bio-safety levels to prevent cross-infections of animals during experiments and to prevent infection of the incumbent or co-workers. Prepare and maintain comprehensive laboratory records involving technical procedures performed, summarizing reports on the animal health issues, bring significant deviations or problems noted either by individual or others t the attention of the attending veterinarian. Maintain animal caging in the laboratory including High containment Labs (BSL4)

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-7 level of difficulty and responsibility in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience at or equivalent to which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in performing technical procedures on non-human primates and other animals infected with a variety of diseases. OR Have completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. OR Have a combination of graduate level education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
