Job Description

Duties

  • Fit orthopedic devices to ensure proper healing of injured extremity.
  • Pass medical instruments during orthopedic procedures to assist with patient care.
  • Notify physician of patient status in clinic and any paperwork involving patient care and treatment.
  • Assist patients with forms (i.e. patient operative consent, disability, and V.A. forms) to ensure completion for physician's signature.

Conditions of Employment

  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 15 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes includes assisting with a variety of specialized tasks in the treatment of patients with conditions and/or injuries, such as preparing and cleaning treatment areas, preparing sterile fields and ensuring supplies and instruments/equipment are available and properly functioning and safely transfers injured patients to exam.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as Orthopedics, Health Technician, Health Science, or Health Services. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
