The Facility Manager reports directly to the Director of the Animal Care Facility (ACF). While the Facility Manager will not have a daily room assignment, the expectation is that the Facility Manager would cover absent employees or staff shortages by working in the ACF when necessary. The Facility Manager will oversee the work of the animal care technicians, monitor daily workload of employees located in his/her facility, assigning or shifting work as needed. The Facility Manager provides leadership and guidance to the animal care technicians. and presents Facility-Level recommendations or concerns to the Director of the ACF. The Facility Manager is responsible for performance improvement counseling when necessary, approving time off for technicians, creating the weekend coverage schedule and checklist, organizing and attending meetings and participating in training and development of staff. The Facility Manager is expected to identify ineffective processes and systems and identify solutions for improving quality and function. This individual will work independently, making day to day operational and workload decisions for the facility. The Facility manager will familiarize himself/herself with all the equipment/machines that are in the ACF and be responsible of all their usage and preventive maintenance. The Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing all billing and cost recovery of all research projects conducted in the ACF.

- Schedule Washroom and Husbandry staff and assign duties
- Complete and maintain all timekeeping records using the Institution’s timekeeping system; sign off on all time reports bi-weekly in accordance with payroll and time clock policies and ensure that staff are adhering to policies
- Establish work hours for employees, assign responsibilities and monitor work

- Monitor animal housing and support areas to ensure safety & accordance with all applicable policies and guidelines
- Maintain complete understanding of security system and ensure compliance with standards

- Determine appropriate levels of food, bedding, chemicals, cleaning supplies, cage materials, etc.; complete and route Purchase Requisition to replenish lab supplies when needed

Required Experience
Required
Bachelor of Science and 2 to 4 years of experience as a laboratory animal technician or related experience with animal husbandry and/or laboratory animal management experience handling small animals, including rodents; or
Veterinary Technician/Associate Degree plus 5-7 years related experience as a laboratory animal technician or related experience with animal husbandry and/or laboratory animal management
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
Valid driver's license and ability to be insured upon date of hire
AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification upon date of hire or eligibility to obtain certification within six (6) months from date of hire

AALAS Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) certification or eligibility to become certified
