A person working as Analytical Technician III, performs analytical test work to support Newmont global operations with prescribed procedures under close supervision.


  • Understanding of computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, and database.

  • Read, comprehend and interpret documents including but not inclusive to Safety Data Sheets (SDS), labels on products, warning signs, instructional manuals.

  • Understand and comply chemical hazard and safety.
  • Able to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to complete physical work. i.e. carrying buckets and sample preparation.

Here is a snapshot of what your day to day will look like:


The Incumbent Is Responsible For, But Not Limited To


The employee in this classification is responsible for performing somewhat basic analytical tasks/tests. The employee will perform duties as directed and needed by the company.


  • We are capable of ordering consumables and maintaining an appropriate stock of such items.
  • We perform gold and copper extractions using cyanide and weak acid solutions: cyanide soluble gold (AuCN), preg-robbing gold (AuPR), cyanide soluble copper (CuCN3), and acid soluble copper (CuAS) tests.
  • We weigh gold for gravimetric finish.
  • We prepare carbon samples for fire assay.
  • We dispense solutions, crafting reagents, pipetting, and dilution of solutions.
  • We are able to dispose of samples accurately according to hazard classifications.
  • We are able to support other departments such as mineralogy, metallurgy, and water group if needed for basic task such as sample weighing, prep, inventory, disposal, and basic analytical procedures.
  • Digesting, filtering, and pre-roasting samples for LECO analysis.
  • We are proficient with balances and can weigh out sample for various analytical analyses.
  • Knowledge of inorganic water analysis.
  • We demonstrate discipline in cleaning up of working area after use.
  • We batch samples in LIMS for analytical analyses.
  • We maintain lab notebook with detailed and organized notes on procedures, directions, and priorities.
  • Knowledge of sample type (float product, concentrate, feed, high sulfide, sulfates, telluride, roast product, etc.) required to resolve sample weight needed for the Fire Assay process.
  • Assessment of sample batches based on grade to mitigate cross-contamination.
  • We demonstrate responsible handling of acutely hazardous material.
  • We perform manual wet-chemistry techniques such as alkalinity, pH, conductivity, TDS, and TCLP extractions.


Your role will consist of (cont.)


  • We handle sample workload considering several distinct methods and procedures involved in carbon sulfur analyses
  • Working knowledge of cold vapor mercury analysis.
  • Selection of appropriate standards to calibrate all carbon and sulfur determinations.
  • Working knowledge using the AAS and preparing standards for AAS analyses.
  • Working knowledge of carbon sulfur analysis using combustion infrared analyzer for C-S measurements.
  • Understanding of dore weight and silver content to discern digesting needs for atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS) finish.
  • Working knowledge of mercury combustion analysis.
  • Working knowledge in resolving appropriate recipe/mix of flux needed to mix with each sample type.


People


  • Demonstrate ability to lead and complete projects with limited supervision.


Cost Control


  • Understanding of time allocation charges.


Reporting


  • Ability to use all other Newmont reporting platforms.
  • Compliance with data management practices, including electronic document control, logbooks, and use of file sharing.


Compliance/Quality Control


  • Perform workplace inspection and document findings.
  • Reviewing and updating SOP’s, JHA’s as the need arises.
  • Promote and adhere to internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards by consistently maintaining a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
  • Demonstrate discipline and maintaining cleaning work environment, efficient and safe laboratory working area, and a continuous improvement mindset.


Contractor Management


  • Assist risk assessments (RA), Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and understand the level of monitoring needed based on the specific contractor.


Safety, Social responsibilities and Environment


  • Raising, discussion and resolution of safety, environmental and social responsibility issues at regular meetings.
  • Identification of potential hazards and action that is appropriately taken.
  • Actively participate MTF specific programs.
  • Actively participate in community services.
  • Maintenance of a high standard of efficiency, safety and effectiveness

Education


  • Capable of understanding written procedures, standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and job safety analyses (JSA’s).
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulatory issues are also preferred.
  • Capable of solving basic mathematical problems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in science related field preferred.


Experience


2-5 years’ experience in a relevant field is preferred.


Skills And Abilities


  • Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.
  • Must possess basic computer skills such as ability to enter data into common spreadsheet and word processing programs such as Excel or MS Word.


Working conditions and location


Where you will be located!


  • Willingness to put in extra hours as projects and priorities as the need arises.
  • The position is located in the Malozemoff Technical Facility.
  • Maintains focus with repetitive tasks lasting 6-9 hours per day.
  • Wear personal protective equipment such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, respirator, earplugs, and gloves to perform duties safely.
  • Work with laboratory standard chemicals, chemicals awareness is a must.
  • Work will be conducted in office and laboratory environments with occasional requirement to enter mine site and office area.

The salary range offered for this role is $26.73 - 33.01. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.


This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
