Eaton’s PSD Power Systems Division division is currently seeking a Analytical Scientist.
The expected annual salary range for this role is $77249.97 - $113299.96 a year.

What you’ll do:
The Analytical Scientist provides technical and project leadership in research & development, design, quality & process improvement, and field & manufacturing problems as part of the Materials Development Laboratory (MDL) at Eaton’s TAETC (Thomas A. Edison Technical Center). This role will mainly support analytical chemical analysis (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) FTIR, thermal, and general Gas Chromatographic (GC) analysis. Through analysis, the incumbent provides technical direction in the broad spectrum of materials, manufacturing processes, and products – emphasizing the application of polymer insulation materials, such as rubber, epoxy, and thermal plastic materials, as well as other dielectric materials. This centralized resource will collaborate with lab staff and support product line engineers at all product lines. This position will report to the Materials Development Lab Manager
In this function, you will:
- Support capital project and general lab expenditure
- Performs competitive product analysis
- Champions Eaton MESH Safety program for relevant disciplines. Assists in the development and enforcement of safety regulations.
- Contributes to Intellectual Property owned by Eaton
- Troubleshoots & repairs instrument problems, using external resources as needed
- Identify contamination with analytical tools, such as FTIR, GC, Thermal analysis, etc.
- Develops applicable test methods and test procedures. Analyze test data, accuracy, and reasonableness of data, and write reports
- Evaluates and prepare internal materials specification
- Supports VA-VE and Maintenance of Line (MOL) projects and provides scientific inputs
- Perform root cause analysis and provide accurate, creative, and timely solutions
- Participate in new material development projects and identify advanced materials and engineering solutions in product and technology roadmap for all product lines.
Qualifications:
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- Minimum of two (2) years of work experience in analytical chemistry or in a materials lab
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Materials, Environmental Engineering, or Physical Science
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Polymer Materials Engineering, Chemistry or Physical Science from an accredited institution
- Familiarity with FTIR, Gas Chromatograph, Thermal Analysis (DSC, TGA, DMA, etc.) equipment and techniques
Skills:
Additional knowledgebase/experience considered a plus:
- Knowledgeable in distribution transformers, switchgear, power capacitors, and other power distribution products
- Knowledgeable in electrical insulating liquid and solid chemistry
- Working knowledge of electrical testing, procedures, and power system products
