Job Description
Scope of Position


Join a dynamic and experienced Transmission Analytics team providing expert-level technical expertise supporting EDFR's strategic goals and operational and developmental activities across all technologies (solar, onshore and offshore wind, storage, hydrogen) in North America.


The analyst will be responsible for (1) conducting congestion-related analyses for operating and development assets using production cost simulation models and (2) developing and maintaining models and underlying assumptions for basis and curtailment studies


Responsibilities


The Analyst, Transmission Analytics will be responsible for:
  • Running PROMOD analysis for assessing congestion/curtailment risks for operating and development projects
  • The analyst will build and maintain models, data files, processes, and systems for historical and forward-looking congestion analyses, and for development of medium term and long-term congestion forecasts.
  • The analyst will also undertake fundamental or market research as needed for special projects/initiatives such as solar and storage integration, HVDC or other transmission/congestion related assessments, or to identify future market trends and transmission or interconnection process changes that can impact curtailment and congestion risks.
  • Maintaining and developing models and databases for congestion and curtailment modeling and other studies:


The Analyst, Transmission Analytics, will work under the Associate Director, Transmission Analytics, the VP of Transmission Analytics, and the SVP of Valuation & Analytics. In addition, the Analyst, Transmission Analytics, will conduct and coordinate research with the rest of the Transmission and Analytics group, the Fundamentals group, the Asset Management group, regional development groups, the Resource Assessment Group, and other internal teams as required and relevant to the business needs. It is further expected that the Analyst, Transmission Analytics, will make frequent presentations on congestion, energy market, and transmission related issues to senior level EDF Renewables management.


Responsibilities -


  • Conduct historical and forward-looking congestion analyses for EDFR’s operating and development assets.
  • Provide market and fundamental research and analysis for basis and power curve modeling, as well as special studies (e.g., battery integration).
  • Manage and maintain Promod databases and assumptions files.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications


Education/Experience


  • Demonstrated experience running PROMOD or Plexos is strongly preferred
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related quantitative discipline is strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience in economic modeling or data analyses is required.
  • Strong understanding of power systems and Locational Marginal Pricing (LMP) fundamentals is required


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities –


  • Demonstrated competency in other modeling, statistical analysis, and/or optimization software strongly desired.
  • Strong relationship development skills and the ability to work successfully with peers and other teams across the company.
  • The ability to function in a team environment and demonstrate a strong motivation to succeed in a very fast paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of CAISO, MISO, SPP and/or ERCOT wholesale electricity markets highly desired.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Excel and MS Office Suite.
  • Experience in detailed economic modeling of transmission networks, thermal and renewable generators using Promod, Plexos, or Aurora is strongly preferred.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability and poise to interact comfortably with senior levels of management.
  • The successful candidate will use various information sources and will know how to procure an assortment of data sources for analysis, presentations, or use in production simulation modeling and economic analysis.
  • Expertise in power system analysis software packages PSS/E, PSLF, PowerWorld Simulator is strongly preferred.


Working Conditions –


Approximately 80% of the time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, PROMOD, FTR/CRR and hedging tools, PowerWorld, or other software as required), using statistical and optimization software programs, and using general office equipment.


Approximately 20% of the time is spent in the field meeting with regional developers, asset managers or attending conferences, or meeting with vendors and suppliers as appropriate.


Fiscal Responsibilities –


The employee must work within the budget constraints as authorized by the Executive Team; while successfully following all policies and procedures related to employees’ fiscal responsibilities in doing the day-to-day job.


Pay Range: $79,050 - $131,750 Annually
