Airport Security Officer Jobs

Job Summary Under immediate supervision, is responsible for performing patrol and security work at a City facility or related area. Working conditions are in a large building complex or airport environment with occasional exposure to hostile people and emergency situations. Exercises no supervision. Work Location San Antonio International Airport, 9623 W. Terminal Drive San Antonio TX, 78216 Work Hours Training: 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; 10 hour work shifts to be assigned after training completion. Essential Job Functions

• Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.;

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
• Maintains activity logs using office equipment and communicates or dispatches through the use of a two-way radio.
• Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
• Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Minimum one (1) year of security and customer service experience in dealing with public in person.
• Checks buildings, facilities and equipment fixtures and as necessary reports on conditions by often touring, moving about and observing.
• Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times. Preferred Qualifications
• Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment clearance upon employment.
• Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
• Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain a positive and professional working relationship with internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures and methods.
• Meets daily goals set by the department.
• Provides information and directions to customers and the general public.
• Ability to establish and maintain good public relations.
• Takes necessary action to detain or prevent entry by unauthorized persons.
• Knowledge of applicable security guard orders, requirements, instructions, and procedures.
• Ability to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism. Applicant Information
• Demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws, statutes, and policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.
• Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constant changing environment.
• Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
• Patrols assigned areas to eliminate or report fire hazards, deter thefts, vandals, or violence.
• One (1) year experience as a Security Guard or security related experience.
• Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Monitors and maintains station at entry/exit point to City activities.
• Knowledge of crowd control techniques and procedures.
