Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. About the Position
Is your career feeling stale? Are you ready for a breath of fresh air? Come join our team of inspectors with the Air Quality department where you will assist in providing clean air for the residents of Maricopa County to live in and breathe.
The Air Quality Inspector conducts inspections of various sources to determine compliance with air quality laws, rules, and regulations to ensure that sources are operating in conformance with legal and permitted requirements.

We Require
  • A copy of unofficial transcript attached to the application
  • Bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours of coursework in natural, physical, or environmental applied sciences
  • Valid Arizona driver's license required upon hire

Job Contributions
  • Review and comment on proposed permit conditions for applicability and enforceability
  • Review a variety of facility records, performs air quality tests, and prepare enforcement documents
  • Inspect and investigate dust sources, industrial, and commercial air pollution sources, and related control equipment for compliance with air quality rules and regulations, prepares inspection reports and associated documentation
  • Respond to citizen complaints to determine if violations of rules exist
  • Advise and educate the public and industry about environmental air quality issues, regulations, policies, safety, and compliance
  • Evaluate reporting data to determine the compliance status of facilities/sites
Working Conditions
  • Ladder climbing to reach inspections sites
  • Subject to outdoor working conditions and sizeable earth-moving equipment at sites; work outdoors during periods of high temperatures, including days when temperatures exceed 110° F
  • Field deployment using a vehicle as to the principal place of work
  • Navigation of remote locations with minimal cartographic tools
  • Protective clothing (i.e., hard hats, steel-toed shoes) is necessary for some environments
  • Bending, stooping, and kneeling in outdoor climate conditions and indoor commercial environments
  • Ability to carry up to 25 pounds for up to 1,750 yards
