Description
We would love to have you join our team at the Kentucky Department of Agriculture! Our department provides services and programs across the Commonwealth which benefit every Kentuckian each day.
This Agricultural Marketing Specialist position is in the Office of Agricultural Marketing, Market News Branch and will have the following duties:
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Prepare reports of market information and present it on area radio stations.
  • Collect daily price information.
  • Record the price of livestock sold and categorize them in accordance with their grade.
  • Provide technical assistance to farmers, producers, market operators, farm industry leaders and consumer groups in market development.
  • Keep abreast of market trends and prices of agricultural commodities.
  • Attend livestock sales and place a quality description on the species.
  • Grade livestock for shows and sales.
This position offers a flex schedule and a state vehicle to commute to/from job sites.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree in agriculture.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience in the production or marketing of agricultural products.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Agricultural experience will substitute for the required college on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work typically involves extensive contact with the public. Travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
