The Human Services Department's (HSD) Adult & Aging Division seeks seasoned Social Workers ready to take their career to the next level!

The Human Services Department's Adult and Aging Division (A&A) is currently recruiting to fill two full-time positions, one Adult and Aging Social Work Supervisor in the Adult Protective Services (APS) unit and one Aging and Disability Resource Supervisor in the Aging and Disability Resource (ADR) unit. About The Adult And Aging Social Work Supervisor


Adult and Aging Social Work Supervisors in APS review and approve case actions, provide frequent consultation with social workers, and review cases submitted for closure. They are responsible for supervising a team of Adult & Aging Social Workers, providing oversight for each worker's investigation caseload. Additional responsibilities include:


  • Participating in a weekly rotation as the after-hours supervisor on call for the APS Emergency Response 24-Hour Program
  • Equitably and effectively planning, organizing, and supervising social worker performance
  • Engaging with community partners and representing APS in meetings such as Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings
  • Reviewing and evaluating abuse reports and determining whether an investigation is needed
  • Performing a variety of supervisory tasks, including evaluating and training staff, explaining staff needs to administration, and facilitating meetings with staff and community partners
  • Providing backup to staff as needed by interviewing clients, procuring and evaluating information, and making appropriate recommendations in difficult cases
  • Meeting, consulting, and collaborating with other HSD supervisors and partner agencies to coordinate work
  • Participating in on-going program development and policy and procedure protocol to ensure compliance with best practices
  • Providing back up support to other APS supervisors and their units as needed
  • Holding group and individual meetings to review work activities for appropriateness of services and referrals, and conformance with State and local program timelines, regulations, policies, and procedures
About the Aging and Disability Resource Supervisor


Additional Responsibilities Include


Aging and Disability Resource Supervisors in ADR administer the Sonoma County Information and Assistance program, including supervising a team of Adult and Aging Social Workers who provide information and assistance services, short-term services coordination, options counseling, and transition services to diverse, complex, and medically fragile individuals of all ages.


  • Partnering with Social Workers, Public Health Nurses, and outside medical providers, to collaborate and consult on the delivery of services
  • Performing a variety of supervisory tasks, including evaluating and training staff, explaining staff needs to administration, and facilitating meetings with staff and community partners
  • Representing the County at community meetings, outreach events, and other forums where the needs of older adults and people with disabilities are being discussed and planned
  • Working collaboratively on the development of the Aging and Disability Resource Unit, including data collection, reporting, policy and procedures, outreach, and staff coverage planning
  • Working closely with managers on the Aging and Disability Resource Hub project, including collaborating with community agencies who provide no wrong door services to older adults and people with disabilities in Sonoma County
  • Working both independently and collaboratively with a significant amount of autonomous judgment and decision-making


The Ideal Candidates For These Positions Will Possess


  • Experience supervising, training, and/or coaching staff
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience working with community agencies and advocating for older adults and people with disabilities
  • The ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and laws
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact with a diverse client population
  • Experience working with regional centers, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, or other institutions or medical settings
  • Significant knowledge of social work principles and mental health conditions for older adults and people with disabilities
  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or a social services related field
  • Knowledge of community resources, crisis intervention techniques, assessing risk, and task prioritization
  • The ability to manage difficult or challenging conservations with personnel, clients, or others in the community
  • An understanding of Trauma-Informed Care and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Experience working with seniors or adults with disabilities in a home setting
About the Adult and Aging Division (A&A)


The Adult and Aging Division assists and advocates for the safety, health, dignity, and independence of older adults and persons with disabilities. A&A focuses on protective, supportive social services, as well as community advocacy and coordination. The Division encompasses several programs serving older adults and people with disabilities including the Veterans Services Office, Public Guardian, and In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). The Division also includes the Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging program, and its Advisory Council, which plans, coordinates, and allocates Older American Act funds for services for persons 60 years of age and older in Sonoma County. Minimum Qualifications


Education and Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, a Master's Degree in social work, or a Master's Degree from a two-year counseling program, such as marriage and family therapy, clinical counseling, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and counseling psychology; and at least two years of experience comparable to Adult and Aging Social Worker;


OR,


Graduation from college, with a Bachelor's Degree in social work, sociology, psychology or other behavioral science and at least four years of experience comparable to Adult and Aging Social Worker or two years as a Social Worker Supervisor I overseeing cases involving older or dependent adults and/or people with disabilities or complex medical conditions;


OR,


Academic coursework at a college or university in social work, sociology, psychology or other behavioral science and at least seven years of experience comparable to Adult and Aging Social Worker would provide such opportunity.


License: Possession of a valid driver’s license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


Thorough knowledge of: principles, practices and techniques of social work; casework methods and techniques with particular reference to problems of older and/or dependent adult neglect, abandonment, and abuse; current philosophy and practices in the field of Adult Social Services and gerontology; psychopathology, the different types of mental illness diagnoses, how mental illness affects human behavior and mental health services and treatments utilized by clients; signs, stages and dynamics of abuse, and the effects of abuse on adult behavior; signs and symptoms of alcohol and drug use/abuse in adults and their families/caregivers; standards for maintaining clients safely in the home; options for housing and higher level care; conflict resolution, family dynamics, and caregiver/client dynamics; principles and methodologies of research, analysis, problem solving, and decision making; laws, rules, and regulations governing the operation of public social services agencies and the role and responsibilities of a social worker; medical, legal, economic, and social management needs of individuals and families.


Considerable knowledge of: strategies and protocols surrounding crisis intervention techniques, such as voice modulation; principles of community organization; resources available in the community for referral.


Working knowledge of: principles, techniques, and practices of supervision, training, mentoring, motivating, casework consultation, and peer counseling; principles and practices of organization, workload management and time management.

The Selection Procedure Will Consist Of The Following Examination
