Why does the job exist?

This position is responsible for the leadership and direction of the maintenance patrols and special crews within the District 3 Maintenance Division through coordination with the Area Maintenance Supervisor by providing oversight and direction of all highway maintenance activities and allocation of manpower, materials, and equipment.

How does it get done?

Provides supervision and guidance to crew members and patrol supervisors; management and coordination of maintenance equipment, tools, and field supplies; planning, coordination, and input of required road reports; review and audit Maintenance Management System (MMS) data.

Who are the customers?

NMDOT employees and the traveling public.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
¿ Highway maintenance management
¿ Highway maintenance field operations
¿ Snow removal oversight
¿ Budgetary management

Minimum Qualification

A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below. A hiring agency will designate a portion of the required experience to include supervisory and/or specialized experience. Any required licensure, certification or registration shall be defined at the time of recruitment and will be in addition to the above requirements.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License and must have or obtain a New Mexico Class A Commercial Driver's License within six (6) months of hire. Business reference check and Driver's License verification are required and employment is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

State of New Mexico employees may be impacted by the Public Health Order dated December 19, 2022, which requires facilities licensed or certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS"), including all hospital types, long-term care facilities, nursing homes, hospice facilities and rehabilitation facilities, as well as assisted living facilities and adult day care settings, to adhere to all COVID-related requirements prescribed by CMS, including, but not limited to masking and staff vaccination.
Work is performed in an office and outdoor environment with daily contact with the public and employees. Overnight travel. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call out for weather, accidents and/or emergencies on short notice; willingness to accept change of geographical assignments; interaction with the public.
