2 x posts, full-time (37.5 hours)


Fixed-term contract/secondment


£27,598 - £30,019 (Band 4)


Edinburgh or Glasgow – hybrid working will apply for the foreseeable future


An exciting opportunity exists for a proactive and enthusiastic individual to join Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) as an administrative officer. There are two posts available.


Scottish Patient Safety Programme (fixed-term contract/secondment until 31 March 2025)


The successful candidate will provide dedicated administrative support to the Associate Director of Improvement and Safety along with providing wider support across the work of the Scottish Patient Safety Programme.


The primary responsibilities of the post holder will include diary and inbox management for the Associate Director, organising and supporting meetings and events (virtual and face-to-face), gathering and collating information, taking of meeting notes/actions, formatting documents, arranging travel and accommodation, processing invoices/raising purchase orders, and liaising with senior managers, professionals and other colleagues from health and social care. Strong communication and interpersonal skills is therefore essential along with the ability to manage complex or sensitive information. Experience of working within a similar role would be advantageous.


Mental Health Improvement Portfolio (MHIP) (fixed-term contract/secondment until 31 March 2024)


This is an ideal opportunity for someone with some admin experience looking for a short term post or a new graduate looking to get some public sector experience.


This high profile portfolio uses a variety of approaches to improve the care received by individuals within a range of mental health services in Scotland, working with key partners both internally and externally within several improvement support programmes. The successful candidate will support the programme on a wide assortment of administrative tasks, be comfortable with complex calendar management and have solid interpersonal relationship skills.


For both posts candidates should be educated to HNC level or have demonstrable equivalent experience in administration with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages (MS Team, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc). The successful candidate should have strong organisations skills with good attention to detail along with the ability to manage conflicting demands. Working well as part of a team is essential.
