Your Responsibilities Will Include


  • Support other work teams in Learner Strategies and Supports, the Iowa Department of Education, or as directed by Bureau Chief, in improved implementation of the standards, evidence-based practices, curriculum, and assessments. This work includes regular participation in assigned team meetings.
  • Serve as the Iowa Academic Standards leader in the review, revision, and implementation processes. Provide support and guidance to LEAs, AEAs, and institutes of higher education regarding the Iowa Academic Standards.
  • Development of protocols, facilitation guides, and related resources to support school improvement and as part of Differentiated Accountability;
  • Maintain professional competency through review of professional research, on-site visitation of programs and continuing education activities. This work includes on-site compliance visits. Participate in professional activities of Bureau, Division, Department, and national and state organizations.
  • Work as a collaborative member of the Bureau of Learner Strategies and Supports leadership team to provide vision, strategic planning, and problem solving to support the bureau in engaging bureau drivers to accomplish Division goals.
  • Determination of and dissemination of information about evidence-based practices.
  • Inclusion of students with disabilities in the content areas and behavioral health;
  • Explicit instruction;
  • Provide leadership, coordination, and project management of all birth-21 academic-related work in the Bureau of Learner Strategies and Supports. This includes connecting standards, MTSS work, and evidence-based practices with the statewide service delivery system between the Department of Education, area education agencies, and local education agencies when necessary. HOURS: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday with some in and out of state travel, nights and weekends. This position may be eligible for flexible hours (earlier or later start/end times) and a partial remote work schedule.


Selectives


160 Teaching/Training


6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in instructing students individually or in groups – this includes preparing materials, delivering material (i.e., lectures, presentations, demonstrations), keeping records of student progress and communicating progress to students.


OR


186 Education


6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in education, instructional design, or a closely-related field.


OR


203 Instructional Design


6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in all of the following:


  • Creating a plan to bridge the gap between the current state of the learner and the end goal of instruction
  • Evaluation of this training
  • Defining the end goal of instruction
  • Determining the current state and needs of the learner
OR


573 Curriculum and Instructional Design


Applicant should demonstrate a minimum of 6 months’ experience, 12 semester hours, or a combination of both in the area of educational curriculum and instructional design and implementation.


Minimum Qualification Requirements


Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:


  • A combination of a total of nine years of education and full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university course work may substitute for one year of full-time experience.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in social work, law, education, engineering, or public or business administration, and experience equal to three years of full-time, professional-level work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as an Education Program Consultant.
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university, and experience equal to five years of full-time, professional-level work in program administration, development, management, or operations.
