Primary Purpose
The Adjunct Instructor of Licensed Massage Therapy provides instruction to students in the Massage Therapy program, directs student discussion and evaluates student performance in the classroom.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Hold at least one scheduled office hour per class per week for student help sessions and program assistance.
  • Perform other essential job functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
  • Provide instruction in area of discipline, using approved course outcome guides. Teaching assignments may be during the day (including early morning), evening, or weekend, and could include classes taught at any of the College campuses, online or remotely.
  • Participate in course assessment.
  • Utilize College tools and resources, including the Learning Management System and Disability Services software, to support teaching activities as appropriate.

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

  • Ability to work with other faculty and COCC staff at all levels.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services.
  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to enable instructor to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  • Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers, video chat technology (e.g. Zoom) and familiarity with or willingness to learn the learning management system (LMS) used at COCC.
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  • Thorough knowledge of field of Massage Therapy based on education and/or experience in the field.

Ergonomic Requirements
Ability to work in classroom and office environments using computers, white boards, projectors, and other basic office equipment. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, moving equipment. All individuals are required to be able to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements
Education:
  • Degree in Licensed Massage Therapy, Biology, or related field; or a minimum of 24 quarter hours (16 semester hours) of credit in the field of the primary teaching assignment.
Experience:
  • Demonstrated successful teaching in the past, or evidence for the potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Two years of relevant experience working in the field.

  • Current, valid Oregon massage therapy license.
