Job Description

Position Title
Adjunct Instructor, Online Nursing

Overview
The Wegmans School of Nursing invites applications for part-time instructors to teach the next generation of “Fisher Nurses.” Initial openings are for May 2022, however candidates who submit an application will be added to a pool from which qualified faculty will be hired. As openings occur, these applications will be reviewed for possible interviews.

An adjunct instructor for the online MS in Nursing program is responsible for teaching specific coursework in a student’s plan of study. Teaching within WSON means that evidence-based practice principles are incorporated into content at every stage. The role of adjunct instructor requires demonstrated knowledge in the specialization, as well as the competence to deliver that knowledge asynchronously and synchronously. There are four specializations:
  • Primary Care Family Nurse Practitioner (PCFNP)
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)
  • Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP)
  • Adult/Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)

Didactic teaching experience in a higher education environment is required, as is the ability to speak to current industry standards as communicated through various nursing professional organizations. A demonstrated comfort with technology is vital, as is an interest in working with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and partner community. The adjunct instructor must also be able to teach from a place of credibility, with at least one year of current direct patient care as a licensed nurse practitioner. The role requires impeccable organization skills, as well as written and oral communication skills. The adjunct instructor reports to the program director within their specialization.

Appointments are renewed based on need and teaching performance. Compensation is based on experience and academic credentials.

Job Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the ADGA and oversight by the GC, the adjunct instructor will be responsible for:
  • Participating in the admissions process as needed
  • Providing course review and feedback as requested

  • Collaborating with internal and external partners (library, tutoring)
  • Providing guidance for student projects
  • Assisting with clinical experiences as needed; e.g. preceptors
  • Managing each course assigned in a timely manner (communication, grading)
  • Holding a minimum of five (5) office hours each week

Adjunct instructors may be asked to teach one or more of the following courses:
  • 570 – Pharmacology
  • 503 – Foundations in Nursing Research
  • 571 – Diagnostic Reasoning *those hired should be available to be on campus during Immersion
