Job Description
Job Summary


The Accounts Payable Specialist performs a variety of tasks in preparation of reports, and is responsible for coding and recording accounts payable transactions. This person also conducts the day-to-day operation of the rental assistance clearinghouses. Works with Accountant to maintain contract files and sets up new files while processing new proposals.


Essential Functions


  • Maintains accounts payable files.
  • Maintains the contract database and files correspondence. Records new proposals and sets up new contract files in conjunction with Accountant
  • Assists with month-end closing, journal entries and reconciliations in conjunction with Accountant.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs accounts payable functions: general expense voucher coding & allocations, enters payments vouchers into General Ledger, and prints and processes checks.
  • Maintains various clearinghouse files and information (including payment limits), processes checks according to clearinghouse regulations, and assists in preparation of clearinghouse reports.
  • Assists with audit and monitoring visits.


Working Conditions


Hours: Full Time: 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday


Part Time: 20 hours/week, Monday through Friday

Qualifications


  • Working knowledge of accounting;
  • Experience with computers required.
  • Must be good at working with numbers and concentrating on details;
  • Personal vehicle or access to independent transportation required
  • Must have organizational ability, good judgment and initiative;
  • Proof of motor vehicle insurance (for use of personal vehicle)
  • Criminal record check required
  • High school graduate with strong math background and courses in bookkeeping or principles of accounting, data processing, and at least 2 years of related work experience.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required
  • Must have the ability to work independently, taking the initiative to complete jobs which are not assigned.
