In this role, you will be a member of our diverse group services team which houses human resources, accounting/finance, marketing, business development, IT, and administration. We are currently looking for a dedicated Accountant for our Westport, CT office. This position is an integral part of the accounting team and assists in maintaining and providing timely and accurate financial statements in adherence with GAAP and ensuring company compliance with federal and state tax agencies.
- Works with appropriate accounting contact persons for Intercompany transactions
- Ensures timely expense recognition (on both sides) for year-end Intercompany related accruals.
- Prepares accruals for recurring transactions.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate design, review, posting and reconciliation of month end close specifically for the reporting of intercompany relationships.
- Assisting Group Accounting with the Intercompany improvement project
- Continuous process improvement within Intercompany issues (root cause analysis and action about missing or wrong coding on intercompany invoices follow up on missing and wrong coding)
- Performs complex analytical assignments and prepares accounting related reports.
- Develop, document, implement and manage accounting processes, controls, and systems to ensure appropriate level of internal control.
- Maintenance of netting accounts and correspondence
- Investigate and explain any unreconciled items and prepare action plans to correct the differences noted.
- Monitors pending Intercompany requests (either Sending or Receiving) and provides status updates to parties who will need to action such requests.
- Conduct analysis intercompany accounts and prepare month-end account reconciliations in compliance with accounting policies.
- Manage intercompany transactions, policies and communication and company-wide reconciliation of intercompany account activity.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and work efficiently and independently, self-starter, energetic.
- Apply knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the relevant industry.
- Exercise creativity and resourcefulness in completing tasks accurately in a compressed timeframe.
- Work under executive supervision.
- Flexibility to adapt to all situations and work varied hours; possibly work weekends or evenings.
- Experience with a fully integrated financial system such as MAS200, Great Plains or Deltek.
- Three years of related experience at a mid-sized company is required.
- Experience working with international entities with multiple currencies is required.
- Perform work tasks by receiving direction and then working independently with an interest in quickly learning and applying new skills and abilities.
- Ability to demonstrate good common sense and sound judgment.
- Rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimum direction.
- Ability to perform at high levels in a fast paced, ever-changing work environment.
- Possess strong organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, Business Administration or Finance is required.
- Demonstrate consistent ability to be dependable, diligent, and thorough.
- Current experience in the service or construction industry is preferred.
- Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and Quick Books.
- Utilize effective written and oral communications and team skills.
