This position advises undergraduate students in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design (AMD) program and its majors. Advises students concerning degree planning, academic support services, academic policy issues, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc. Assists students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements including course selections.
This person is also expected to collaborate with the departmental advising team and internship coordinators in student recruitment, orientation, retention, internship placements, and career advisement. The position will coordinate a learning community for students and advising student clubs. The position will have oversight for work experiences requirements. The individual will serve on departmental and college committees.
Example of Duties
- Advises learning communities.
- May supervise students.
- Assists students in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements including course selections.
- Teaches orientation courses.
- Advises student organizations.
- May serve as a lead advisor.
- Refers students to appropriate resources such as counseling, academic success, financial aid, etc.
- Presents at orientation or other events.
- Advises students concerning degree planning, academic support services, academic policy issues, graduation requirements, degree certification, degree auditing, etc.
- Interprets academic policies and procedures to support student success.
- Participates in recruitment activities and develops materials.

- May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
- Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
- Provides guidance to students
- Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
- May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
- Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
- Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
