JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Department of Kinesiology in the College of Health of Human Development (CHHD) seeks a highly motivated professional Academic Adviser to join the Martha C Adams Academic Advising Center. The successful individual will expand the Kinesiology’s Academic Advising team aligning with the growth of undergraduate students pursuing the Kinesiology degree and allow for the continuation of a collaborative, knowledgeable, and committed academic advising staff.


The candidate will be responsible for:


  • Documenting and maintaining confidential advising notes and maintaining the confidentiality of student records.
  • Providing academic advising to undergraduate students enrolled in and exploring majors or minors in Kinesiology at University Park.
  • Sharing career information with students and assisting them in identifying other educational resources regarding careers in the field, and meeting with prospective students and their families.
  • Assisting in resolving academic problems and making professional referrals.
  • Guiding students in course selection using the university academic planning tools, scheduling, and long-range undergraduate degree completion planning.
  • Interpreting university policies and procedures for students and faculty.
  • Monitoring student academic progress.


The successful candidate will represent the department and college in university-sponsored recruitment and retention initiatives including New Student Orientation, Accepted Student Programs, Spend a Summer Day, Link UP, and Majors Night. The position aids with projects and undergraduate student success initiatives and University-level academic advising-related searches and committee work; may assist in the hiring, evaluation, and training of professional and support staff, and serves as a liaison among students, faculty, staff, and campus and university constituents.

Education and Experience:


Typically requires a Master's degree and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with LionPath, Starfish, Canvas, Office 365 applications, Adobe, Word, and Excel, is desirable.
