Position Overview
The Dean of Students assumes primary responsibility for the culture of the school, facilitating the development of student character and ensuring a positive and structured environment that creates the conditions for accelerated learning. This position requires an organized and consistent educator with a concrete vision of excellence, adult leadership experience, the ability to build outstanding relationships with stakeholders, and a talent for inspiring children to high expectations. This position is an opportunity to play a significant role in founding an institution focused on academic achievement, character, and college-readiness.
Responsibilities of the Dean of Students will include, but are not limited to:
- Assist teachers, students, and parents in the creation and implementation of support plans for individual students
School Culture
Work closely with Principal to establish a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture
Facilitate teacher training and support around discipline, relationships, expectations, consistency, and management
Coordinate and implement a school-wide discipline system with meaningful incentives and consequences
Serve as the point person for discipline/culture issues as well as specific behavioral intervention plans
Assist teachers, students, and parents in the creation and implementation of support plans for individual students
Monitor behavioral pull-out, in-school suspensions, out of-school suspensions, and suspension parent re-entry meetings
Maintain accurate student discipline records; document all conferences, suspensions, and phone calls for behavior
Plan, lead and oversee an effective Tier I, Tier II and Tier III behavioral culture
- Work closely with Principal to establish a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture
- Monitor behavioral pull-out, in-school suspensions, out of-school suspensions, and suspension parent re-entry meetings
- Facilitate teacher training and support around discipline, relationships, expectations, consistency, and management
- Coordinate and implement a school-wide discipline system with meaningful incentives and consequences

- Lead recognition assemblies, parent workshops, community events, and other culture-building activities

Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs, classroom observations and audits to help staff maintain a high bar of excellence
Lead weekly behavior analysis meetings with each grade level
Provide ongoing coaching and development to teachers
Plan and lead ongoing student culture professional development throughout the year
Conduct and monitor the successful implementation of 504 Plans, Functional Behavioral Assessments, and Behavior Intervention Plans
Facilitate Support Team Meetings to ensure intervention plans are created for students who need additional behavioral support
Track and report student behavior to MNPS through Infinite Campus, Illuminate for KIPP and other regional level reports
- Support teachers in building relationships with students and parents; implement parental involvement plan

- Clear understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy and leadership
- Experience teaching or supporting English Language Learners, preferred
- 4+ year(s) of experience as a classroom teacher with a proven record of high achievement AND
- 1+ year(s) experience leading and/or coaching teachers, including but limited to roles such as Assistant Principal, Principal, Dean of Instruction, Dean of Academics, Instructional Coach, Teacher Coach, etc.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
- Evidence of significant and consistent personal and professional achievement

Additional Information
Our comprehensive compensation package includes life insurance and long-term disability coverage provided by KIPP Nashville, voluntary medical and dental plans, in addition to retirement benefits and an annual salary increase. To establish equitable salary practices, the compensation package is derived from the regional KIPP Nashville Public Schools pay scale. This position is exempt and will follow a 12-month schedule.
