Job Description

Position Title: Dean of Students
Unit: Professional Administrative Exempt
Salary: Determined by the district and a comprehensive benefits package
Earnings Days: Determined annually by the calendar

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Dean of Student Accountability shall be responsible for the supervision, coordination and implementation of the District Uniform Discipline Code for Student Conduct under the direction of the Principal. The Dean of Student Accountability will supervise and monitor student activities, clubs, and organizations. He/she shall assist the Building Principal in establishing and maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain an atmosphere that is conductive to the educational process.
Establish routine processes and procedures that are conducive to the educational process.
Assist the building principal in the management of the school.
Assist the Building Principal and other administrators in non-certified staff supervision and evaluation
Promotes community understanding of school policy and needs as well as working with various community agencies
Responsible for working with District & building staff and students while implementing student discipline under the District Uniform Discipline Code of Student Conduct
Responsible for developing positive and appropriate relationships with students
Work with teaching, counseling, security, coaches and other staff in the area of student behavior and student services
Communicate with, and engage parents, students, and staff
Supervises students during, before, after school and at school related extra curricular activities
Assists in the supervision and formal evaluations of assigned support staff
Assist the Building Principal in the preparation and administration of the school budget
Participates in building and district committees/meetings directed by the Principal and/ or superintendent or designee
Actively cultivate positive relationships with students and with parents.
Works as part of the building team to ensure academic achievement of all students
Work in other administrative areas as directed by the Building Principal
Interact with co-workers, administration, students and parents in cooperative, supportive and positive ways
Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Bachelor’s Degree with comparable training and experiences working with youth, required
Masters degree preferred
Have at least two years successful working with students at the secondary level or other equivalent experience working with youth, required
Has exhibited leadership in working with staff, students and community
Is aware of and can deal with the multiplicity of issues of an urban school district
Demonstrates ability and desire to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with diverse populations
Provides demonstrated evidence of GRPS Guiding Principles: Ethical Behavior, Openness, Service, Productivity, Accountability and Capacity. Demonstrates administrative ability and experience in a Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) management philosophy
Demonstrates ability to organize and implement a system for consistent school-wide student behavioral management
Demonstrates an ability to work effectively with students, families, and staff
Demonstrates an ability to maintain accurate records
Demonstrates knowledge of models for changing student behavior
Demonstrates a willingness to grow professionally

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk and hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
MENTAL FUNCTIONS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
