Job Description

37.5 hours per week

10 months per school year

Qualifications:

  • Graduation form a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) year college or university with an Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistance or directly related field; AND
  • Possession of a certificate issued by the State of New York as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant.
  • Must be an Erie County Resident
  • Demonstrated experience working with students with disabilities, particularly individual with physical challenges, medical and/or health challenges, and developmental delays.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and receive supervision by a registered occupational therapist.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering school-based services.
  • Knowledge of best practices in school-based occupational therapy.
  • Knowledge of adaptive equipment and ability to utilize such to facilitate student access to instruction and/or environment.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Up-to-date professional knowledge and skills.
  • Previous experience with accessing Frontline IEP software.
  • Previous experience in school-based occupational therapy.
  • Previous experience with submitting Medicaid session notes

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.

Special Requirements: Working knowledge of principles, procedures terminology and equipment of Occupational Therapy; ability to perform therapeutic activities; ability to stimulate and maintain patients' interest in their therapy program; ability to get along well with supervisors; ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions; emotional maturity; initiative and resourcefulness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Reports to: Work is performed under the direct supervision of higher ranking professional Occupational Therapy staff with leeway for the exercise of independent judgment in developing and carrying out the prescribed rehabilitation programs for individual patients.

Duties:

  • Provides Occupational Therapy to students with disabilities.
  • Address goals and objectives as indicated on student individualized education plans.
  • Participate in CSE meetings, team and/or parent-teacher conferences when requested by building or central office administration.
  • Be responsive, work collaboratively and follow direction of supervising OTR.
  • Participate in team planning for individual students.
  • Instruct the student in the appropriate use of equipment, when warranted, and facilitate use.
  • Assist with the completion of vocational assessments for students and provide support for the student in vocational settings as warranted.
  • Complete all required paperwork, including session notes and/or documentation for Medicaid reporting.
  • Attend trainings specific to the position and/or programming updates, as approved by the Building Principal and Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education and Student Services.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Coordinator of Special Education or the Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional Education and Student Services.
