Five years of journey level experience in heavy construction, equipment operation and general maintenance and,

Six (6) months supervisory or lead experience or completion of the City’s Employee and Leadership Development Program.

Effectively train others in technical procedures, techniques and skills.

Leads crews and actively works with them in all phases of construction and maintenance activities at the Municipal Wharf.

Performs and directs all activities of a wharf construction crew (as delineated in the Wharf Construction Worker specification).

Receives and communicates daily assignments; responsible for the completion of all verbal and written instructions.

Knowledge of boats and boat protocols

Possession of National Association of Underwater Instructors (N.A.U.I.) or equivalent certification as a scuba diver.

In lieu Medical Reimbursement of $200 /month (if not participating in City offered Medical Plan)

Operate a pile driver to lift, set and drive pilings.

Operate boats and other water craft including barges to transport materials and in certain emergency situations as required.

Perform electrical work to install and repair wharf street lights, navigation lights, fire alarms, electrical services to wharf buildings.

The minimum qualifications for Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities are the following:

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or related field.

Five (5) years of journey level experience in related construction and/or maintenance and,

Plans, schedules and directs the work of the Wharf crews and ensures that the crews perform safely.

Makes hiring recommendations; develops work schedules; directs training programs; completes or reviews performance evaluations; maintains discipline and productivity of crews.

Monitors activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations, performance and operation standards and other local, State or Federal regulations.
