US Citizens and Nationals; no prior Federal experience is required.

Prepare research plots for planting and cropping production using conventional agricultural equipment and practices.

Assists in machine harvesting, planting, and irrigation.

Conducts field walks with CNP Farmers regularly to develop next steps in crop management and daily tasks

Implements effective weed management strategies to ensure aesthetic quality and consistent yields

Compensation for this role is set at an hourly rate ranging between $16.00 for 0 years of experience and $20.00.

1 year experience in horticulture, agriculture, gardening, or desire to learn

Certification in Horticulture, Agriculture, Ecology, or a related field

1 year experience teaching or working with pre-K through 12th grade students is a plus

Support crop production on the farm including weed and pest management, harvesting, watering, transplanting, fertilizing, sheet mulching, and greenhouse propagation.

Knowledge and experience in safe use of weed whackers, lawnmowers, power tools and other small machinery.

0-1 years of relevant work experience particularly within the fields of landscape maintenance, organic/regenerative farming, construction, plumbing, or relevant trades.

Knowledge and passion around community farming, food justice, food systems development, etc.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Creative skills and ability to experiment to attain new, better strategies, approaches, and solutions to challenges.

Previous gardening/farming experience is preferred but certainly not necessary.

Assist in all regular garden tasks including harvest, planting, weeding, bed preparation, and general maintenance

Become familiar with different crop varieties and harvest standards

Periodic deliveries to kitchens/outlets and participation in meetings with kitchen teams

Assisting in the care for our laying poultry flock

Speak fluent English and be able to lift at least 50lbs.

Must have good communication skills, learn, execute, demonstrate, research, and teach varied hand skills usually gained through progressive work experience.

Required and Preferred Education and Experience:

Research available information and may conduct ongoing supplemental research to the existing body of knowledge.

Required: High school degree/G.E.D. with a general knowledge of 18th c. colonial history.

Assists with in-depth seminars, workshops, and forums as required using Colonial Williamsburg assigned technological platforms.

Adheres to safety and security procedures for work, workshops, tools, and people

Excellent project management skills and experience working in diverse teams of colleagues, peers, and external partners.

Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills.

Experience organizing workshops, field days, and other training for farmers and landowners.

Experience and comfort interacting with diverse stakeholders including farmers, agricultural landowners, advocates, agency staff, and extension educators.

Lived experience with and/or demonstrated commitment to advancing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice.

It is preferable that you have experience and agricultural education.

Complete and pass the TechnoServe pre-employment training courses.

Reside in the same community as the TechnoServe farmers.

Possess means of transportation to make visits to the beneficiaries of the program.

Availability to travel within the assigned areas.

Availability to meet with community groups at their preferred time and day which could include weekends.

Mechanical aptitude, Spanish speaking, knowledge of boats/boating are welcome but not required.

Must be willing to work, we are mechanized but there is still labor involved.

Must be able to lift eighty pounds.

A typical day starts at 6am and ends at 3pm with a one-hour break.

Sometimes we will be working at our shop in Quonset, North Kingstown.

Must be willing to work in all-weather elements.

Organic farming/gardening experience is preferred however, a positive/solution-based attitude and a thirst for knowledge, is required.

Be comfortable interacting with guests and provide them with a wonderful experience at the resort.

The position pays $15 an hour.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Help provide education and instruction to local high school students (Junior Crew team members) who participate in many of our enterprises

Previous farm experience is preferred, but not required.

This role reports to the Agriculture Manager.
