Senior Juvenile Probation Officer Jobs

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Time management and organization with the ability to apply principles and methods of corrections casework.

Monitors payment of restitution and probation fees and ensures victims’ notification rights are provided according to statutory requirements.

Directs and/or refers probationers and parents/guardians to community resources, treatments or other interventions based on assessments, behaviors and conditions of probation.

Performs searches, breathalyzers/urinalysis collection, and makes a documented effort to locate absconders.

Provide technical assistance and conduct case reviews with staff to determine applicable case management intervention strategies.

Obtain and maintain certification in TJJD Use of Force techniques, which requires physical restraint of juveniles.

Obtain and maintain certification in First Aid and CPR.

Failure to maintain required certification will result in termination of employment.

Juvenile Probation Officers are required to maintain CPR and First Aid Certifications throughout employment.

Abide by all provisions of s.985.644(1) regarding fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.

Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Attends training conferences as required for maintenance of Juvenile Probation Officer Certification.

Good verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees and elected officials.

For certain positions requiring certification, state standards shall disqualify an applicant if their criminal history reveals:

Maintains correspondence, written and verbal, with District Attorney, juvenile’s family, juvenile’s attorney, victims and collateral agencies.

Knowledge of various counseling and treatment modalities.

Compile, organize, and update case history files for accurate representation of youth and family background, behavior and other relative information.

Attends court and make recommendations regarding youth.

Attend and participate in various work-related meetings and training.

Must have valid driver’s license from state of residence, and provide proof of such.

Considerable knowledge of the juvenile justice system, especially as it relates to juvenile delinquency and children in need of supervision matters.

Knowledge of community resources providing services to children and families.

Some knowledge of human development and child and adolescent psychology.

Makes investigations, reports and recommendations to the juvenile court.

Makes appropriate referrals to other private or public agencies of the community as needed.

Makes predisposition studies and submits reports and recommendations to the court as required by Alabama law.

Knowledge of and skill with basic computer programs to complete forms and required documentation for caseload management

Ability to use non-violent physical restraint and non-hostile management of aggressive behavior

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB)

Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD) Juvenile Probation Officer certification

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification

Prior experience with at-risk youth

Knowledge of the principles of youth probation work and related court procedures.

Knowledge of child and adolescent development and behavior and family dynamics.

Some knowledge of community resources available to youth and their families.

Ability to organize time and effectively manage workload.

Skill in the operation of a personal computer with word processing applications.

An employee new to the Judicial Branch will serve a one-year probationary period.

Knowledge of Sheriff's Office responsibilities and ability to use independent judgment in the performance of duties

Knowledge of and ability to enforce and apply departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and general orders

Knowledge of the use of Sheriff's Office records and their application to the solution of problem issues

Coordinate, direct and monitor the daily activities of juveniles in the Holdover Facility.

Some knowledge of identifying social or human science resources to fit the needs of clients.
