Seasonal Large Mammal Keeper Jobs

Clear communication skills, both verbal and written

1+ years of paid experience in animal husbandry (preferably in a zoo setting).

Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel spreadsheets, and Google drive are encouraged.

Cooperates and assists with veterinary treatments and instructions.

Participates in membership programs including tours, presentations and lectures.

Performs minor repairs and improvements of exhibits under supervision.

Knowledge of relevant research techniques environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

3+ years of experience and a Master’s Degree in Marine Biology, Marine Science, or related discipline.

Experience supporting offshore environmental projects, habitat and impact assessments, permitting and/or construction monitoring; environmental consulting experience preferred.

Knowledge of major federal statutes and implementing regulations, including NEPA, MMPA, ESA, CZMA

Experience leading or conducting marine species surveys or as a Protected Species Observer a plus.

Accomplished knowledge of local/regional ecology, habitats, and applicable species.

3+ years of full time paid experience in animal husbandry (preferably in a zoo setting).

Experience with primates and PPE protocols is preferred.

Experience with Microsoft office, Excel spreadsheets, and Google drive are encouraged.

Collaborates professionally with all other department’s staff, volunteers/interns and outside contractors.

Actively involved in professional networking, public relations, media contacts, public speaking and assistance in development and fundraising activities.

Fosters relationships with other zoo professionals, institutions, and organizations.

Proper feeding and diet requirements of a variety of animal species

Maintain mental capacity which permits making sound decisions and using good judgment, prioritizing work activities, demonstrating intellectual capabilities

One year of increasingly responsible zoo keeping experience, compensation will be experience dependent

Prepare diets for animals; clean and maintain work area and food storage containers

Assist in the training of assigned animals, guide animals through daily routines according to established training schedules and guidelines

Care for new and quarantined animals when required; obtain and submit fecal samples as needed

Experience working with a variety of exotic ambassador mammal and domestic species within guest experiences and education settings.

Ensure the daily routines of cleaning, animal observation, diet preparation and reporting medical needs or abnormal conditions to Zoological Managers

Partner with maintenance, operation managers, horticulture, veterinary staff, educators and scientists

Minimum of three years paid animal husbandry experience in an AZA accredited facility or institution with comparable standards

Experience working with different taxa with an emphasis on behavioral conditioning

Observation, evaluation and data collecting skills

Bachelor’s degree in zoology or a closely related discipline and two years’ experience in the care and management of mammals

Conduct educational presentations in both formal and informal settings.

Provide daily care, including but not limited to, feeding, enrichment, and operant conditioning training for mammals

Clean animal enclosures and other exhibit areas

Perform routine exhibit maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and other routine maintenance activities

Observe and document physical condition and behavior of animals

Implementing enrichment activities to improve animal management

Promoting visitor education and experience

Adhering to all safety protocols set forth by Management and Veterinary staff

Know when to involve management.

Preference will be given to applicants that have at least 3 months paid/unpaid internship experience.

Basic carpentry, plumbing and horticultural skills are considered an asset.
