Assisting in recommending, coordinating, and/or implementing as directed, short and long-term plans and programs for an integrated landscape management.

Education: Minimum high school diploma or GED preferred but not essential with appropriate experience

Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the turf maintenance industry.

Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.

Skills in the operation of light trucks, tractors, and mowing equipment.

Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to calculate quantities and determine appropriate ratios and mixtures.

Requires a valid driver’s license, two years driving experience and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Must obtain certification in a recognized landscape technician program within one year of employment.

This position requires drug and alcohol testing in accordance with federal law.

Operates University vehicles and equipment.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to use “down-time” effectively to the benefit of the company

Terms of Employment and Eligibility Requirements

Cut grass, using walking-type or riding mowers

Trim hedges and edge around walks and flower beds using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools

Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools

Assists in recommending, coordinating and/or implementing as directed, short and long term plans and programs for an integrated landscape management.

Effective oral and writing skills.

Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the turf maintenance industry.

Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.

Assist in the administration of permits for work within Public Rights-of-Way.

Assist in reviewing plans, laboratory tests, and other information to assure conformance with public improvements and infrastructure construction guidelines.

This is a seasonal position that will work June through mid October.

Chain saw and chipper training will be offered on site and necessary safety training provided.

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of related training or experience in commercial gardening, grounds maintenance, and/or greenhouse work.

Experience with chainsaw and wood chipper operation

Plant and transplant bulbs, plants, shrubs, trees and lay sod.

Prune trees and shrubs, stake and transplant trees;

Prepare soil for new annual and perennial beds, maintain perennial beds

Safely driving a golf cart around the Arboretum property with event supplies

Setting up and taking down wedding ceremony seating

Keeping outdoor ceremony locations private and redirecting Arb guests during event times

Act as the point of contact for the event client and communicate their needs to the

Assisting Reservation Specialist with indoor reception event needs

Attending to select Arboretum Signature Events with outdoor setup and details
