Minimum of two years' experience in a school, special education, or behavior health setting working with children and adolescents is preferred

Collaborate with both school personnel and parents/guardians to develop specific interventions on behalf of eligible students.

Ability to work with a variety of learning styles and abilities, including those with special needs and low skill level

Apply knowledge of various counseling techniques to improve and support student retention

Assist students in understanding the relationship of academics to careers, life at home, and in the community

As part of a multidisciplinary team, review eligibility for special education services

Commitment and ability to serve all students with diverse backgrounds, abilities and needs toward accomplishing their educational goals.

Connecting families with a variety of social service resources, behavioral health services and resources through referrals and case management, wherever appropriate.

Strong communication, collaboration, feedback and facilitation skills

Serving as a member of the Student Assistance Team (SAT), Individualized Education Program (IEP) Team, PBIS team, and truancy committee.

Demonstrates professional integrity and a commitment to best practices for communicating with students, staff, and families

Bachelor’s Degree and licensure in the field of mental health or Louisiana certified school counselor.

Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.

Collaborate with families to assist students with educational, career, and life planning

0-3 years counseling experience, preferably at the high school level

A valid New York State Certification

Experience implementing pedagogical strategies and developing a comprehensive counseling program relevant to the New Visions Charter School model

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Assists director, rehabilitation managers and supervises Rehabilitation Information Specialists with outcomes management, quality improvement and monitoring activities as requested.

Participates and/or leads team meetings and reviews documentation concurrently to ensure accurate documentation of team conference discussions.

Bachelor's Degree from accredited program in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Nursing or Science program.

A minimum of 5-7 years in Inpatient Rehab PPS/Quality environment.

BLS from American Heart Association

Develop resources to assist students in learning educational survival skills including study skills and conflict resolution strategies.

Assist students in the preparation of a post secondary planning time table for post-secondary education and/or training.

Increase students’ awareness of the career and educational planning process as well as for the individual careers.

Provide counseling for students in the areas of self-esteem, communication skills, decision-making and relationship skills.

Process and facilitate on-going services for students with disabilities and their families.

Collaborate with teachers to provide guidance lessons and information.

Requirements: School Counselor with valid PPS credentials
