They may also provide referrals to other mental health professionals or community resources. Job Skills Required Registered Associate MFTs must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to establish rapport with clients and their families and be able to effectively assess and diagnose mental health issues. They must also be able to develop effective treatment plans and provide counseling and therapy services. Job Qualifications Registered Associate MFTs must have a master’s degree in marriage and family therapy or a related field. They must also be licensed by the state in which they practice. Job Knowledge Registered Associate MFTs must have a thorough knowledge of mental health issues, counseling and therapy techniques, and the principles of marriage and family therapy. They must also be knowledgeable about community resources and be able to make appropriate referrals.
