Overview A Rail Switchman is responsible for operating and maintaining railroad switches, signals, and other equipment to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains. They must be able to read and interpret railroad maps and signals, and be able to communicate effectively with other railroad personnel. Detailed Job Description Rail Switchmen are responsible for operating and maintaining railroad switches, signals, and other equipment to ensure the safe and efficient movement of trains. They must be able to read and interpret railroad maps and signals, and be able to communicate effectively with other railroad personnel. They must also be able to inspect and maintain the switches and signals, and be able to troubleshoot and repair any problems that may arise. Rail Switchmen must also be able to operate the switches and signals in accordance with the railroad’s safety regulations. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of railroad operations and safety regulations
• Ability to read and interpret railroad maps and signals
• Ability to inspect and maintain switches and signals
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair any problems that may arise

Job Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in railroad operations
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to pass a background check and drug test
