Job Description of Public Safety Dispatcher Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire, and ambulance services. They are the first point of contact for the public in times of crisis and must be able to handle high-pressure situations with accuracy and efficiency. Job Skills Required
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks
• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Knowledge of local geography and streets
• Knowledge of police and fire codes
• Knowledge of computer systems and software
• Knowledge of radio systems and protocols
Job Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in a related field is preferred
• Must be able to pass a background check
• Must be able to pass a drug test
• Must be able to pass a physical exam
• Must be able to pass a psychological exam
Job Knowledge
• Knowledge of emergency response protocols
• Knowledge of local laws and regulations
• Knowledge of police and fire codes
• Knowledge of computer systems and software
• Knowledge of radio systems and protocols
Job Experience
• Previous experience in a related field is preferred
• Previous experience in customer service is preferred
• Previous experience in a call center is preferred
Job Responsibilities
• Receiving and dispatching emergency and non-emergency calls
• Maintaining contact with police, fire, and ambulance services
• Monitoring radio frequencies and responding to calls
• Recording and maintaining accurate records of calls
• Providing information to the public
• Assisting in the coordination of emergency response teams
• Performing other related duties as assigned
