Assist in the care, well-being, management, behavioral conditioning, and enrichment of a multi-generational, mixed sex herd of African elephants.

Have responsibilities that include: cleaning, animal observations, diet preparation, and medications. Report abnormal conditions to zoological managers.

Practical knowledge and experience with operant conditioning

Demonstrable observation, evaluation, and data collecting skills

Experience providing guest service and guest interaction opportunities throughout your workday.

Experience working with large terrestrial mammals, especially elephants

Experience in interpretation and/or education is encouraged, but not required.

Collaborates with animal care team and education program team to achieve common husbandry and program goals

Communicator – Communicates clearly, both verbal and written. Effective listening skills.

Customer-oriented – Always exercises professional customer service skills. Interacts with many different types of people and situations.

Prior years of paid experience in animal husbandry (particularly in a zoo setting) preferred.

Experience with Microsoft office, Excel spreadsheets, and Google drive are encouraged.

Use paging system to alert appropriate staff to the call.

Answer routine questions regarding appointments or directions to the hospital.

Take and deliver complete messages if recipient is not available for the call.

Look up and provide medical record number or other relevant information.

Enter data into client and patient software system.

Distribute discharge information sheets to referring veterinarians.

Skills/Abilities/Other Requirements: English speaking or bilingual. Ability to prioritize, organize and make good judgments. Dependable.

Partner with maintenance, operation managers, horticulture, veterinary staff, educators, and scientists

Demonstrated strong partnering skills and ability to work on a large team

Experience with a wide variety of avian taxa

Experience working with birds in large free flight aviaries

Experience working with hoofed stock
