OTAs help patients develop, improve, and maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Detailed Job Description Occupational therapy assistants help patients develop, improve, and maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. They work with patients to develop and improve their motor skills, cognitive skills, and social skills. OTAs also help patients learn how to use adaptive equipment and assistive technology to improve their quality of life. OTAs may also provide education and support to patients and their families. Job Skills Required
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology
• Knowledge of occupational therapy principles, practices, and procedures
• Ability to assess patient needs and develop treatment plans
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals
• Ability to use adaptive equipment and assistive technology
• Ability to document patient progress
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Job Qualifications
• Associate’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program
• Licensure or certification as an occupational therapy assistant
• Experience working with patients with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities
