Overview Nurse Unit Managers (NUMs) are responsible for the overall management of a nursing unit within a hospital or other healthcare facility. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit, including staffing, budgeting, and patient care. They also provide leadership and guidance to the nursing staff, and ensure that the unit is meeting the standards of care set by the facility. Detailed Job Description Nurse Unit Managers are responsible for the overall management of a nursing unit within a hospital or other healthcare facility. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unit, including staffing, budgeting, and patient care. They also provide leadership and guidance to the nursing staff, and ensure that the unit is meeting the standards of care set by the facility. They are responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures, and ensuring that the unit is compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. They also oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of new staff members, and provide ongoing support and guidance to existing staff. In addition, they are responsible for monitoring the quality of care provided by the unit, and ensuring that the unit is meeting all performance standards. Job Skills Required• Leadership: Nurse Unit Managers must be able to provide effective leadership and guidance to the nursing staff.
• Communication: Nurse Unit Managers must be able to communicate effectively with staff, patients, and other healthcare professionals.
• Management: Nurse Unit Managers must be able to manage the day-to-day operations of the unit, including staffing, budgeting, and patient care.
• Problem-solving: Nurse Unit Managers must be able to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
• Decision-making: Nurse Unit Managers must be able to make decisions quickly and effectively.
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field
• Current nursing license
• At least 5 years of experience in a nursing role
• Previous experience in a management role
• Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Job Knowledge
Nurse Unit Managers must have a thorough knowledge of nursing practices and procedures, as well as a comprehensive understanding of applicable laws and regulations. They must also have a strong understanding of budgeting and financial management, as well as the ability to manage staff and resources
