As a Military and Family Life Counselor, you will be embedded within the military community, providing support and guidance to those in need. Overview Military and Family Life Counselor Embedded (MFLC) is a mental health professional who provides short-term, non-medical counseling services to active duty service members and their families. MFLCs are embedded in military units and provide services on-site, in the field, and in garrison. Detailed Job Description MFLCs provide non-medical counseling services to active duty service members and their families. They provide short-term, solution-focused counseling to help service members and their families cope with the unique challenges of military life. MFLCs work with service members and their families to identify and address issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, marital and family issues, parenting, anger management, and grief and loss. MFLCs also provide education and training on topics such as resilience, communication, and problem-solving. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of mental health counseling techniques and theories
• Ability to provide short-term, solution-focused counseling
• Ability to work with diverse populations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Knowledge of military culture and lifestyle
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Job Qualifications
• Master’s degree in mental health counseling, social work, or a related field
• Licensed or certified as a mental health counselor, social worker, or a related field
• At least two years of experience in mental health counseling
• Experience working with military personnel and their families
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Job Knowledge
• Knowledge of mental health counseling techniques and theories
• Knowledge of military culture and lifestyle
• Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
• Knowledge of community resources
Job Experience
• At least two years of experience in mental health counseling
• Experience working with military personnel and their families
Job Responsibilities
• Provide short-term, solution-focused counseling to active duty service members and their families
• Identify and address issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, marital and family issues, parenting, anger management, and grief and loss
• Provide education and training on topics such as resilience, communication, and problem-solving
• Maintain client records and documentation
• Maintain confidentiality of client information
• Participate in meetings and trainings as required
