Overview General Cardiology is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of the heart and blood vessels. Cardiologists are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of cardiovascular diseases, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, and congenital heart defects. Detailed Job Description General Cardiologists are responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients with cardiovascular diseases. This includes performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing medications and lifestyle changes. They also provide counseling and education to patients and their families about cardiovascular health and disease prevention. Job Skills Required General Cardiologists must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong clinical and diagnostic skills. They must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to handle stressful situations. Job Qualifications General Cardiologists must have a medical degree and complete a residency in internal medicine or pediatrics, followed by a fellowship in cardiology.
