Certified Contact Lens Fitter – Ophthalmology Jobs in Texas

Learning to provide direct administrative support for and acquiring specialized knowledge of different ophthalmology sub-specialties and patient diagnoses classes.

Gaining experience working on a cross-functional team in a fast paced and dynamic clinical healthcare environment.

Training in our EMR systems including Epic, Power chart and unique ophthalmology programs.

Supporting the conversion of patient and departmental records into Electronic Medical Records (EMR) as well as other process efficiency improvement initiatives.

Completing individualized, self-driven projects working both independently and in collaboration with clinicians and administrators based on intern’s interests.

Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. Healthcare administration majors/minors preferred

HCW has a working knowledge of ocular terminology and basic medical terminology.

Instruct patients concerning eye care and contact lens handling.

Prepares patients and performs as surgical assistant in all types of ophthalmic surgery and/or minor surgical procedures as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The following KSAs are expected at the GS-9 Advanced Technician assignment.

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA).

If you are relying on your education to meet qualification requirements:

Knowledge of advanced clinical optics, advanced ocular motility, advanced diagnostic testing, and microbiology testing.

Knowledge of ophthalmic surgical instruments.

Knowledge of appropriate preparatory cleaning of reusable medical equipment.

Three (3) months related work experience in an Ophthamalic practice

Responsible for the ordering, receiving, & inventorying of contact lenses & contact lens supplies

Notifies patients via telephone of contact lens orders & pick up status

Makes contact lens appointments as required

Performs routine cleaning of contact lenses & trial fitting sets

High school education or GED is required.

No experience required. Some experience as a Medical Assistant, Optometry, or Ophthalmology setting is preferred.

Must attain JCAHPO certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) within 1 year of employment.

2. Tests (measures and records) basic ocular function.

3. Assists ophthalmologist with surgical procedures.
