Perform vegetation management of non-turf and turf areas; including utilization of hand work on native and non-native/noxious species;

Perform irrigation tasks, including roller base set up and tear down, hand watering, sprinkler adjustment, soil moisture identification and management;

Assist with herbicide application and other more technical weed management tasks;

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to take both written and verbal instructions;

1+ year of experience in grounds maintenance or similar field desired but not required;

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

Opens gravesite by digging with proper equipment

Closes gravesite by covering graves, planting new grass seed, and washing all equipment

Performs basic maintenance on equipment as needed

Performs other similar duties as required

Valid North Carolina Driver’s License

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.

Experience in cemetery maintenance strongly preferred

Experience in grounds-keeping a plus

Operates hand tools, drills and other power tools; operates chipper/shredder; operates dump truck, turf vehicle, front end loader and tractor

Cleans and maintains town vehicles within the Chestnut Grove Fleet

Perform other duties as required

National or State Veterans Cemetery operation experience.

Knowledge of National Cemetery Administration Operational Standards and Measures

Experience supporting or working with veterans and their families.

Equipment Maintenance – Cemetery equipment and tools must be properly cleaned, maintained, and accounted for.

Facility Maintenance – Cemetery buildings and infrastructure must be well maintained and functional.

Headstones – Ensure headstones, markers and niche covers are ordered timely, placed correctly, and maintained.
