Overview A CDI Specialist is a healthcare professional who specializes in Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI). They are responsible for ensuring that medical records accurately reflect the patient’s condition and care. CDI Specialists review medical records to ensure that all diagnoses, treatments, and procedures are accurately documented and coded. They also work with physicians to ensure that all documentation is complete and accurate. Detailed Job Description CDI Specialists are responsible for reviewing medical records to ensure that all diagnoses, treatments, and procedures are accurately documented and coded. They work with physicians to ensure that all documentation is complete and accurate. They also review medical records for accuracy and completeness, and provide feedback to physicians on any discrepancies. CDI Specialists also review coding guidelines and regulations to ensure that all coding is compliant with current standards. Job Skills Required• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations
• Ability to analyze and interpret medical records
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Attention to detail and accuracy
• Computer proficiency
Job Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Science, or a related field
• Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
• At least two years of experience in a healthcare setting
Job Knowledge
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
• Knowledge of coding guidelines and regulations
• Knowledge of medical record documentation requirements
• Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement systems
Job Experience
• At least two years of experience in a healthcare setting
• Experience in medical coding and/or clinical documentation improvement
Job Responsibilities
• Review medical records for accuracy and completeness
• Provide feedback to physicians on any discrepancies
• Review coding guidelines and regulations to ensure that all coding is compliant with current standards
• Work with physicians to ensure that all documentation is complete and accurate
• Monitor and analyze coding trends for accuracy and compliance
• Assist with the development of coding and documentation policies and procedures
• Participate in educational activities to stay up-to-date on coding and documentation guidelines
