Behavioral Health Recreational Therapist Jobs

Experience: Minimum of two three years of related work experience in Mental Health, and / or Substance Abuse field, preferably both.

Illustrative Duties And Performance Responsibilities

Engages in direct staff hours of service for assigned clients at the rate of 115 hours per month.

Conducts intake assessments/biopsychosocial evaluations for new and existing clients.

Assessments are performed in accordance with the Centers standards, policies and procedures relative to frequency, documentation and timeliness

Provide individual, family or group psychotherapy within the scope of education and training

Demonstrable understanding of how trauma affects individual, family and community psychology and ability to offer trauma-informed services

Excellent communication skills and computer literacy

Knowledge of mental health treatment and related issues, including DSM- V diagnostic criteria.

Experience working with LGBTQ+ clients, especially trans clients, and/or

Conduct and document comprehensive mental health assessments

Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff by demonstrating knowledge of safety issues and proper use of equipment and supplies

2 years’ experience in acute care psychiatric setting preferred

Active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required

MANAGEMENT OF PATIENT CARE FOR OPTIMAL RESULTS

Documents timely and appropriately, in compliance with insurance requirements and professional and REHAB standards.

Attends and participates in inservices, conferences and educational programs to assure continued professional growth and maintains unit education record.

Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited program, or equivalent experience.

Certification as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification preferred.

Clinical and education position, including, but not limited to:

Additional requirements include training or background in additional modalities such as yoga or other activity-based interventions.

This position works directly with patients of Talbot Hall residential substance use disorder treatment program: coordinating and providing recreational services.

Provides therapy to individuals and groups with substance use and mental health disorders to facilitate return to previous or improved functioning.

Frequent walking, reaching, gripping and keyboard use/data entry.

Conducts patient assessments and establishes recreational/leisure therapy treatment goals.

Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational/leisure therapy interventions.

Coordinates therapeutic recreational/leisure activities for both large and small groups. Observes patient response and encourages socialization.

Provides patient with information regarding resources and therapeutic recreational/leisure activities in the community.

Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Licensure, Registry or Certification Required:

Must be able to work effectively in a team environment

Must be able to work under pressure

Minimum Required Education: Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.

Preferred: 2 years' relevant experience.
