Arabic Language Teacher Jobs in Iowa

Certificate or degree in language teaching, education, instructional design, writing, language, linguistics, second-language acquisition, or related field

Minimum of two years of experience

Availability – Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays (early start 7-8 a.m)

Current Location/ Time Zone: Luxembourg

Relocation date/location: Yes, have relocated. (Luxembourg)

Native and other spoken languages: Fluent English, Afrikaans

Teaching licensure or experience preferred for some roles but not required

Previous experience with Concordia Language Villages or other experiential learning, preferred

Be familiar with and abide by Concordia Language Villages’ Personnel Policies.

Promote the health, safety, and well-being of all staff members and participants.

Speak the target language with participants and staff members as much as possible.

Be a steward of your Language Village site, resources, and relationships.

Knowledge of North African Arabic dialects

Experience with qualitative data analysis

Create short videos for Arabic students;

Create vocabulary lists with sound fiiles and activities based on these videos;

Edit a Wordpress site for teaching Arabic

Code classroom data using the MAXQDA software

Previous Concordia Language Villages experience

Speak the target language with children (“villagers”) and other staff members as much as possible

Organize and supervise villager placement process

Participate in all aspects of Village life, including meals, song times, evening programs, cultural presentations and staff meetings.

Assist with supervision of other staff members

Be a positive role model for desired behaviors among villagers, including use of target language.

Participate in a unique educational opportunity.

Promote a positive learning environment that encourages students to actively engage in their learning.

Ensure content and assignments are aligned with the New York State Learning Standards/Assessments and meet student needs.

Provide substantive interaction with students using flexible, individualized, and best practice online instruction.

Communicate goals for the course and discuss changes or additional goals with each student as needed throughout the course.

One-hour video class sessions will be scheduled twice per week. Additional video sessions may be scheduled at the teacher’s discretion.

Experience teaching the target language and culture

Experience working with adolescents 14-18 years of age

Previous Concordia Language Villages or camping experience preferred

Experience as a teacher in the target language at the college or university level

Skills in teaching the target language and content in the target language

Maintain accurate grade records, complete midsession progress reports and final evaluations.

Salary: $45,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year, depends on experience

To be a subject matter expert

To maintain records including grades, disciplinary, appropriate growth, and change in students areas based on teacher goals and student goals.

To support students with IEP’s and or special accommodations

To create an environment of learning, growth & development for students

To be a teacher advisor, coaching & mentoring students (with the support of a co-teacher)
