Adoptions Counselor Jobs

Must be knowledgeable and comfortable with computer systems use in operation and have basic computer skills, including database skills.

Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues strongly preferred.

Works closely with Foster/Volunteer Coordinator to schedule animals drop offs and pickups.

Works closely with members of the OK Humane to determine volunteer needs on a regular basis or for one-time projects/events.

Clean and sanitize cat and dog living areas.

Clean and sanitize stainless steel cat cages.

Preferred: six months to one-year related experience and/or training

Collecting and maintaining accurate records.

Making lifelong matches between customers and our pets.

Providing information about the Humane Society of Charlotte’s policies and procedures and the animals in the shelters’ care.

Enthusiasm for the mission of the Humane Society of Charlotte and helping animals in our community

Must be comfortable interacting with dogs and cats

Assist TNR program with program duties such as trap rental/return, surgery check-in/check-out, colony manager reclaims and other TNR related duties.

Must complete and pass required training and skills demonstration tests provided by the Humane Society within the established timeframe.

Experience with Microsoft Office and Chameleon a plus.

Ability to manage problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

Act as an adoption matchmaker, introducing potential adopters to their pet of interest and perform adoption visitations when required.

Retrieves reclaimed and/or adopted animals from the kennel area. Practices safe animal handling.

Task Management - Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks, multi-task and manage time wisely as required for success in the position.

Communication Communicate professionally with co-workers, management and public at all times demonstrating an upbeat, team oriented and positive attitude.

Maintaining a high level of communication with Manager and other Team members.

Knowledgeable about all available animals and providing adopters accurate information on dogs, cats and small mammals that are available. (Training provided.)

Properly and promptly greeting all customers and assisting them throughout their visit.

Introducing guests to shelter animals, explaining the adoption process, completing the interview (making detailed notes), and processing the adoption.
