Skill Requirements Addiction Counselors must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They must be able to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients and their families. They must also be able to work independently and as part of a team. They must be able to assess client needs and develop individualized treatment plans. They must also be knowledgeable about addiction and its effects on individuals and families.
