Able Body Seaman Jobs

Knowledge of equipment, policies, procedures to promote the safe and effective operations of a cargo vessel.

Knowledge of principles and methods for moving cargo by sea.

Advanced knowledge on appropriate use of the emergency equipment located on the boat.

Previous Alaska water navigation experience preferred.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Assist with the loading, lashing, unlashing and discharge of cargo.

Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Drug Tests: DOT & Non-Dot hair screen test

Performs manual tasks in the Deck and Steward’s Departments

Wipes up excess oils and greases and otherwise cleans machinery, bilges, grating, decks, bulkheads and vessel’s hull.

Cleans, chips, scales, washes paint, paints, polishes and performs other maintenance work as directed by the ship’s officers.

Assists in the loading, unloading, stowing and inventory of stores, materials and equipment’s.

Working knowledge of requirements for maintaining inventory of deck stores and supplies for vessels.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with emergency methods and practices, drills and training.

U.S. Coast Guard Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW95).

Demonstrated knowledge of standard navigation and ship handling techniques. Demonstrated ability to perform as qualified helmsman.

Demonstrated knowledge of deployment, recovery and operation of small boats.

Working knowledge of math calculations.

1-year recent experience as an Able Bodied Seaman

City Experiences is seeking a Able Bodied Seaman for our City Experiences operation in San Diego

This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences’ RESPECT Service System.

Participate in safety and security drills as required by WQSB

Enforce crew and passenger safetyStand wheel watches as required

Be trained and prepared to use SCBA and fire turn-outs

Properly manages reoccurring stock items necessary for maintaining engineering equipment and vessel components

Manages subordinate engineering crew members in their assigned duties and daily shipboard tasks

Replenishes fuel and water tanks when necessary to meet operational requirements and in accordance with NAVY and EPA guidelines

Must be proficient in written and verbal English language skills

Experience performing daily operational tasks and general maintenance on vessels and related support equipment

Minimum 360 days of experience working on ocean vessels over 40 feet

3 months to 1 year of Related Experience

Connect electrical equipment to power sources so that it can be tested before use.

Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.

Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.

Carry needed tools or supplies from storage or trucks and return them after use.

Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

Two-years of woodworking experience. Must have finish carpentry skills and ability to read blue prints and follow specifications. .

Must have a working knowledge of various power saws and basic woodworking principles.

Possess 3 – 5 years of experience performing locksmith duties.

Install, maintain, repair, open, and change locks on doors and other structures, as needed.

Duplicate keys, re-key locks, and service electronic access equipment and devices using special tools and equipment, as needed.

Maintain a thorough record of changes and additions to the facility’s Key System.

Two-years of woodworking experience. Must have finish carpentry skills and ability to read blue prints and follow specifications. .

Must have a working knowledge of various power saws and basic woodworking principles.

Basic computer skills knowledge required.

Review and maintain barge documentation and certificates, notifying the appropriate shore-side manager of any deficiencies.

Experience in Commercial Boating (i.e. towboat, tugboat, commercial fishing, oilfield, heavy equipment operations, commercial farming and/or shipyard is preferred)

12 months of consecutive work experience.

$331/day, plus OT and benefits (medical/dental/vision/401k, etc.)

Must be able to satisfy all United States Coast Guard physical requirements (CG-719K)
